We are Humble Humans, a Paris-based indie pop band.

My name is Jonathan Meur. I’m a French-Mauritian queer singer-songwriter. I make poetic rainbow-coloured indie pop music. A journalist once said I have “smooth vocals and rich, warm instrumentations”, and others have compared me to Sufjan Stevens, Regina Spektor and Kings of Convenience, all artists I admire - how flattering!

After a childhood and teenage years spent in Mauritius, I lived 15 years in Singapore. There, I released an album, an EP and a couple of singles, played lots of shows and festivals, and found myself lots of musician friends. I’ve also played my music in Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, the UK and the USA. Since 2018, I go by Humble Humans and live in France. I’m (re)discovering my “other” country and making music, both in new and exciting ways.

My first project as Humble Humans was soundscapes for Et chaque nuit, an animated short. I released an eponymous instrumental EP inspired by this work in May 2020. I love soundtracks and I hope to write more.

2020 was limiting in many ways (right?) so, in 2021, I’m taking a step to the side of my usual sound and exploring different genres. My first singles Dancefloor with Friends, Shit Done, Envoie Valser and Recipe for Disaster are out now everywhere.

The SOFT EP came out in April 2022, with alternative versions of the singles: expect all-out New Orleans jazz fun, low-key funk-jazz, strings-led acoustic folk and piano-voice vulnerability.

In 2023 and 2024, my musical project morphed into a quintet thanks to the brilliant musicians who decided to get onboard the Humble Humans train: Noé Miralski on guitar, Antoine Brunet on bass, Prosper Duffours on drums and Matthieu Mancini on keys.

Bonjour et bienvenue.

Nous sommes Humble Humans, un groupe d’indie pop basé à Paris.

Je m’appelle Jonathan Meur. Je suis un auteur-compositeur-interprète franco-mauricien queer (eh oui, tout ça !) de musique musique indie pop poétique et multicolore. Une journaliste a dit de moi dans un article que j’avais « une voix chaude et des arrangements riches » et d’autres m’ont comparé à Sufjan Stevens, Regina Spektor et Kings of Convenience, des artistes que j’admire beaucoup – j’en suis flatté !

Après une enfance et une adolescence passées à Maurice, j’ai vécu 15 ans à Singapour. Là-bas, j’ai sorti un album, un EP et deux singles, participé à de nombreux concerts et festivals, et trouvé plein d’amis musiciens. Je me suis également produit en Malaisie, aux Philippines, en Australie, au Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis. En 2018, je me suis installé en France et j’ai pris le nom de scène de Humble Humans. Je (re)découvre mon « autre » pays et je fais de la musique, en abordant les choses différemment.

Mon premier projet en tant que Humble Humans a été la bande originale de Et chaque nuit, un court-métrage animé - elle est sortie en mai 2020. J’adore les musiques de films et j’espère en faire d’autres.

L’année 2020 a été plutôt contraignante (n’est-ce pas ?) alors, en 2021, je fais un pas de côté par rapport à mon univers musical. Mes premiers singles Dancefloor with Friends, Shit Done, Envoie Valser et Recipe for Disaster sont disponibles partout.

En avril 2022 est sorti l’EP SOFT sur lequel vous trouverez des versions alternatives des singles, du jazz enthousiaste de la Nouvelle Orléans à un piano-voix vulnérable, en passant par un funk jazzy et de la folk qui fait la part belle aux cordes.

En 2023 et 2024, mon projet se transforme en quintet grâce aux musiciens exceptionnels qui ont rejoint l’aventure : Noé Miralski à la guitare, Antoine Brunet à la basse, Prosper Duffours à la batterie et Matthieu Mancini aux claviers.

Et bientôt un nouvel album !
